Read or Die

The word on the street was that 'Read or Die' was something to check out.
Described as a mix of 'The Matrix' meets James Bond, it's one of the most
expensive Original Animated Video series to date. Despite a few slow
character building sections, the show delivers fast passed action at every turn.
The story centers around Yomiko Readman (codename: The Paper), a special
operative of the Royal British Library's Division of Special
Operations (Who knew the Brits had a special Library Division?
"This book is overdue! Swarm! Swarm!") Along with her co-partner Miss
Deep she's up against some tough characters that seem to be coming to life right
off the pages of old books.
Although Yomiko fights with paper (of all things) she's pulls together some
serious butt kicking when she gets going. The way the show puts together some of
the actions scenes are a joy to behold and the art is top notch. The
characters are as well developed as a three episode stretch will allow. I
especially liked Mr. Gentleman, you can tell from his name that he likes to keep
things formal. I would have liked Yomiko to have been a little less
whiney, but Nancy (Miss Deep) makes up for that.
Sound and music are both well done, as well as the subtitles. One of the few
downsides is that the whole thing is too short. I would have liked more,
but I guess that's a sign of a good production - leave them wanting more.
I recommend picking this one up.
