Microsoft to XBox modders: No love for you.

This last week when XBox Live went active a collective cry was heard throughout America as Owners of modded XBoxes were perma-banned from the online service. Naturally the Slashdot community reacted with their normal fury whenever they think that big bad Microsoft has done something bad. Afterall, we all know that Microsoft is evil, Bill Gates eats babies, and Steve Ballmer likes to run around on stage like a soaking wet baboon. Well, you got me on the last one.

Frankly I am happy with their decision to ban all modded XBoxes from the service. If you put a mod into a XBox and then decide to play online with said mod chip active you deserve to get banned. Honestly, what the hell did you think was going to happen? Of course people have tried to come up with various excuses to bad mouth the decision.

"People will just change their serial numbers, and someone might get your serial number and then you'll be banned. Hah!"
"MS is going lose money. Tons on it. Because we all know that the mod chippers are a massive percentage of the gaming population."
"This is just another lashing out by MS against people who have linux on their XBox. Live Free!!!"
"What about the people who buy XBoxes that are modded but don't know it? Someone please think of the children who will suffer!"

Please. I have no sympathy. You knew what you were getting into when modded that damned thing. As for people who might buy modded XBoxes without their knowledge, I'd suggest you take it back and demand a refund. If you got it from somewhere that you can't get a refund maybe you should think about that next time before you spend 200-300 dollars on something. This isn't something new folks, DirectTV has been doing this for ages. Infact they're quite well known for what was called "Black Sunday" where they sent out a pulse that was nothing like ever before. It scrambled almost all pirated cards. What was so horrible about it was that they did it on Super Bowl Sunday, just before the game began. More than one party was ruined.

Face the damned music. You decide to mod your XBox, don't expect to be able to subscribe to a premium service that says "No modified XBoxes allowed". Idiots.
