X2: X-Men United Review
This comic book adaptation comes 3 years after 2000's X-Men, and is the first of probably many sequels. After the events on Liberty Island, the villian Magneto is held in a maximum security prison, and things appear to be going well. However, after an attack on the president of the United States by a mutant, the public goes into an uproar and some believe that all mutants should be detained, or worse. So the heroes of the X-Men must find the assassin and uncover a sinister plot before the whole thing gets out of hand.
Storyline: 8/10
The storyline in the movie is somewhat predictable, but not overly so. It has a few twists and turns, but it all comes together at the end. There are also several new mutants introduced with some pretty cool powers such as Nightcrawler, a mutant who has the ability to teleport short distances. Cyclops and Wolverine are still competing over Jean Gray, which we get to see a little bit more of. Wolverine also uncovers more about his past, which is somehow connected to the assassination. One of the things that I think could get some people upset is the amount of killing in the movie. Wolverine and Magneto both kill no few amount of people in this movie, which I cannot remember in the first movie.
Special Effects: 10/10 The special effects in this movie are outstanding, as can be expected from a big-budget film. Nothing stands out as fake, which is important in a movie where there are a lot of mutant abilities that have to look realistic.
Acting: 10/10 [/p]
All of the original cast from the first movie return to reprise their roles as the various mutants. And with several Oscar winners on board, this movie has all the characters that are true to their comic book personalities. Hugh Jackmen plays a perfect Wolverine, and Alan Cumming plays an excellent Nightcrawler.
Entertainment: 10/10 This movie is as entertaining as the first one, with plenty of action and eye candy. It is also a little over 2 hours long, so it doesn't seem too short. Fans of the comic will also like this movie, as it keeps pretty true to the characters even though the story is different.
Overall: 9.5/10 Go see this movie! [/p] </div> |
