It's Been a While

For those in the class arriving late, here's the information from UO's Costs site.

The Ultima Online monthly service rate will change from $9.95 per month to $12.99 per month on June 25, 2003. At the same time we're also introducing the following two multi-month discount packages, which will be available on June 25th:

* 3 Month Prepaid Discount Package - $34.99
* 6 Month Prepaid Discount Package - $59.99

By choosing our new 6-month discount package, you can keep your monthly rate at $9.99 per month - maintaining your rate where it is right now!

In effect, if you lock yourself in for six months prepaid, you can keep your current rate (the "give us all of your money now" approach). The three month prepay is a monthly charge of roughly $11.66 a month. Should most of us default to monthly, it results in a 30% uptick in their operating budget for each user.

Now think of somebody that has eight accounts. I'm sure you know somebody who does.

Even if a full third of current accounts were closed, their cash flow would remain the same. Their overhead could quite possibly drop, increasing profits. Bandwidth is still expensive.

The problem here is people like me, who were on the fence. The ones just keeping the torch burning that EA would come to their senses and not release ANOTHER crappy, bug-filled expansion. Take ANY of them. Depending on where you came into UO you'll have a different expansion to hate.

That torch was sitting in my house on Trammel.

That house is no longer there.

I deleted it, along with all of my characters on all of my shards. Years of work into the bit-bucket.

The simple answer is that yes, the three dollars swung me into cancelling. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Bring back precasting?

Bring back quality, biy0tch.
