As I was playing the new Pirates of the Caribbean on my Xbox last night, it got me wishing there was a Pirate MMOG...lo and behold, there is! Not only that, its coming out this year. Not only THAT, they are partnered with Akella, the developers responsible for Sea Dogs and Sea Dogs II (Pirates of the Caribbean)! Oh, happy day!

Pirates of the Burning Sea is a high-seas MMOG developed and published by Flying Labs Software. The game will be distributed entirely online and will not appear on retail shelves. Here's a snippet from the official FAQ:

Pirates of the Burning Sea will have a variety of professions available. You can be a naval captain, battling enemy navies during wartime and pirates all the time. Or be a privateer, with official sanction from your sovereign to loot and pillage the merchant ships of the enemy. For that matter you can be a free trader, moving valuable cargo from port to port and building your own trading fleet of NPC-captained ships. In later releases we'll roll out the explorer option, in which you carry out expeditions for the Royal Geographic Society to new lands, mapping the treacherous territories that merchants, pirates, and naval captains will soon occupy.

Not only THAT...[a href="http://www.burningsea.com/gallery.php" target="_blank"]four new screenshots[/A] were released today! Ye best be gettin' over there to take a look-see, ye scurvy dog!
