Dungeon Siege Expansion Due This Fall [7/10/2003 2:43:44 PM ET]

Microsoft Game Studios will release Dungeon Siege:
Legends of Aranna, an expansion pack for the role-playing game released in 2002, in November of this year.
In development by Gas Powered Games and Mad Doc Software, the add-on will place gamers on the tropical island of Aranna, where they will need to solve an ancient mystery. New spells, spell effects, a half-giant character, an assortment of treasures and armor sets and a pack animal, that will defend a player's treasure, will be among the new additions to the game.

Softbank Acquires G-cluster [7/10/2003 12:42:31 PM ET]

Softbank Broadmedia has purchased Helsinki-based G-cluster Ltd., a company that produces a client-server game system targeted towards DSL TV, digital cable and WLAN subscribers.
As a result of the deal, G-cluster has entered into operating agreements with Club iT and BB Cable, both owned by Softbank.
G-cluster, who will remain based in Finland, will continue to work with existing partners and continue to look for new ones. It stated that key advantages to the acquisition by Softbank included "development of synergies" with Softbank companies in areas such as content, publishing, technology and marketing; the ability to access "one of the biggest" video-ready ADSL networks in the world; and remaining "open and vendor-independent with regards to technology partners."

Next Armored Core Title Goes Gold [7/10/2003 11:28:36 AM ET]

The title promises to pick up where the action in Armored Core 3 left off, and will feature over 200 new pats, an A.I. Arena, a new cockpit perspective, over 34 missions, 41 arena opponents, 21 versus Battle maps and support for up two-on-two player skirmishes.
The From Software-developed game will sell for $39.99.

Konami Ships Brawler [7/10/2003 11:15:39 AM ET]

Konami of America, Inc. has shipped its PlayStation 2 game, K-1 World Grand Prix, to retailers around the country.
Based on the "premier fighting sport" which incorporates various martial arts techniques, such as Karate, Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu, the title features over 20 of the top K-1 fighters, seven modes of play and a three-tiered stamina system, that will allow users to attempt to heal specific areas of their body between rounds.
K-1 World Grand Prix is rated "T" [a href="Teen"] and will sell for approximately $39.99.

VU Flips Online Game Division [7/10/2003 10:44:54 AM ET]

While on the subject of destination sites, The VendareGroup says it has purcahsed Vivendi Universal's online games division, Flipside, Inc.
The all-cash deal, details of which were unannounced, put Vendare in control of sites such as Uproar, Virtual Vegas and iWin. Upon closing the deal with VU, Vendare promptly sold "certain assets" from iWin to Next Game Inc.
"Our mission is to provide an array of popular, branded games that offer consumers entertainment as well as the chance to win cash and prizes," said Keith Cohn, CEO of The Vendare Group.

EA Set to Launch Club Pogo [7/10/2003 10:28:59 AM ET]

Electronic Arts will debut a new subscription service for visitors to its online game destination site, Pogo.com.
Beginning later this month, subscribers to Club Pogo, who will receive a 14-day free trial followed by a $4.99 per month subscription fee (or $29.99 per year), will get a variety of VIP features in return. Among the new features and services available are: exclusive games, larger prizes, no advertising interruptions, quicker access to games and "deep" community features such as private chat and special challenges.

The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) has announced the top renting games for the week ending July 6, 2003.
Here are the top 10:
1. Enter the Matrix-PS2
2. Hulk-PS2
3. Midnight Club II-PS2
4. NBA Street Vol. 2-PS2
5. Brute Force-Xbox
6. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell-PS2
7. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Operation Resurrection-PS2
8. Midnight Club II-Xbox
9. Enter the Matrix-Xbox
10. Def Jam Vendetta-PS2

Enter the Matrix for the PS2 led the way among rentals again, earning an estimated $0.42 million in the week to bring its total rental income haul to approximately $6.4 million. The Hulk for the PS2 stands at about $2.74 million in rental income to date, while Midnight Club II has totaled $4.75 million and NBA Street Vol. 2, also for the PS2, has totaled about $2.79 million since its release.
