World Of Warcraft: PvP @ E3

| 17 May 2003 05:27

Some unique items will only be attainable by entering PvP zones (you will get a pop up warning message when approaching these zones). The unique items will NOT be uber-stat weapons or armor, but they will be special 'unique-looking' items like robes, etc. People will know if you PvP by your appearance, will give recognition for your status, and be able to acknowledge the depth of your ability by the clothing / items you have. These items will most likely be NON-TRADEABLE, so if you want one, yer gonna have to muster up the courage sooner or later....

Massive turmoil will be encouraged & built upon between the Alliance and the Horde and reflect in PvP.

Warring races will probably NOT be able to group or guild together to uphold a truer representation of Warcraft history, lore, & roleplay elements. What if a human gains favorable faction with Orcs? You probably still won't be able to group or guild with an enemy race.

There will be different 'tiers' in PvP. You may only attack players within your level range (tier) in PvP areas. There will be different PvP areas for different tiers. Once you have leveled beyond your old tier, you can no longer go back into that area with that character. You may re-enter previously visited PvP areas with secondary characters of the appropriate level. Once you level up past the limit, you may PvP in a new area. This is intended to discourage (for example) a level 40+ character from obliterating level 10 newbies.

"There will be no PvP server." - direct quote from the dev team ( there was some confusion about whether or not Blizzard would have a dedicated PvP server or not on several community forums this week).

You cannot PvP or PvE on your mount. Devs felt this would give too many people an unfair advantage in PvP specifically, but also that it would interfere with some fighting animations.

Blizzard has several staff members on their dev team who are hardcore PvP and PK.

The entire Blizzard dev team *combined* is playing every major MMORPG currently released.

Blizzard intends to have over 1,000+ non-linear quests waiting for you at release! ( The dev team is not much for bang monster, get magic doo-dad, they would prefer to give you a much more immersive feel ).

There will be MANY GM-sponsored events, quests, and roleplay.

The official word is that WoW has already been under development 4 years give or take a month or so.

( more to come as I gather my notes....)
