Star Wars Galaxies: Q-3PO stops by to give some random answers!

| 20 May 2003 03:06

With E3 and a portion of the Development Team being gone, the lack of news this week on the Star Wars Galaxies Boards is easy to explain. However some of the natives still got restless, Q-3PO being the great guy he is stopped by to give some answers:

Before I get started I would like to clearly state that you currently have TONS information on this game given the FAQ, Developer's Digests, my weekly Beta Updates, Q's Queries and Friday Features (except last week), Raph Holobits (except the two weeks before last week, but he made up for it with the size of this last holobits post) and the various magazine and internet articles. Anyone who complains that there isn't enough information on the game just hasn't been paying attention.

However, I will agree with you that we haven't been giving you a lot of new stuff in these last few weeks to keep you busy. Our lack of constant communication leads directly to flaming and trolling. (of course flaming and trolling leads directly to warnings, banning and no beta, but that's a different issue). Now that E3 is over I'm going to get back to my regular daily posting. As before some days will be light and some days will have more info.

quote: This is a typical griefers post about the NDA and how silly it is. This thread will probably get modded asap, but oh well. And quid, i saw that you just locked like 6 threads...uncool.
I disagree, I think it is totally cool that we want this site to be a welcoming community instead of a rant site. Quid, you keep on closing "griefer" posts.

quote:but dont you think its silly that we cant even be told such things as how much money you start off with, or how much things cost?
Nosir, the things we aren't telling you are the things that are getting heavily tweaked in beta. Without first hand experience, it's not going to do you any good to know that we start you with 250 credits because the market for a blaster is in flux. Currently, it costs 1000 credits to buy a beginning skill. Mission pay anywhere from 5 credits to several thousand. I know have the feeling we're going to get several topics discussing how right or wrong these numbers are, but without actually seeing them in game, the discussions aren't going to have much value. Also they will likely change.

(I know, I know, then I should just let you see them in game. Here's a hint, in Wednesday's update I'm going to announce a big round of beta invites. We will take a bunch of people who are good from these forums)

quote: I'm waiting for Q to reply to my questionn his post. I had heard that the in-game stuff was removed.
I don't know if I'm allowed to confirm it, but what the heck, you guys deserve some info. It is back in. We are currently working on the unique wearable for the collectors edition. I want to keep it a surprise for now, but it looks cool. It does not give any in-game benefit. We want collector's edition people to be able to show off, but not have an advantage over those who didn't pay for the CE. You likely will not be able to trade this item.

quote: all i would want is the collectible book.
I got to see it at E3 (along with the CE box). It is definitely cool. Not trying to push the CE on you, I'm just saying I was impressed when seeing it in person.

quote: So My advice is that you should not advertise products being released by seasons, rather by months. When it is June in America it is June in England and Australia and everywhere else.
OMGHI2U, you have a very good point. I'm actually always hounding other devs on the Beta forums to spell out dates (like May 7th) instead of digits (5/7) since the order is different internationally. Unfortunately in this case the release date is specific to the U.S. and I'm not allowed to give the month. Season captures the range we're able to announce. We could probably use "quarters" instead, but many people aren't familiar with the business quarterly cycle.

quote: Why on earth does it take 12 hours for someone to notice that the forums are down?
It didn't. There was backend things happening at SOE this morning for PlanetSide's launch (tomorrow). Sorry we didn't warn you in advanced. We thought it would take a lot less time than it ended up taking. We couldn't post either to inform you.

quote: do you guys remember when the .... dev team had controls of the polls?

now it seems like they have handed them over to the marketing department.

I know you really want to call the Marketing department evil, but they have a legitimate job to do. Yes, we give them control of the polls from time to time. I could use some ideas for new polls though. This might be a good starting point for constructive debate, what polls should we host in the upcoming weeks?
