Doom. Say it slowly. Let the letters slide off your tongue, tasting them as they pass. Dooooooooom. Eleven years ago, ID Software unleashed their blood-drenched magnum opus on the world, and the face of computer gaming was forever changed. Doom not only revolutionized (some would say, practically invented) the FPS genre, it also put the "Shareware" concept on the map and gave us our first "game-developers-as-rock-stars" in Carmack and Romero. Even today, its impact is still felt; Doom was recently chosen by PC Gamer magazine as the most controversial computer game of all time.
