PSP 2.0 Firmware Cracking Update
|
Tom's Hardware is reporting a homebrew developer was able to load his version of tic-tac-toe on the 2.0 firmware. The video, floating around an unnamed PSP homebrew site, apparently shows the cracker browsing the web, then loading into a development kit that previously only worked for the 1.5 version.
The article makes a good point that many of the app writers aren't interested in facilitating piracy so much as they want to improve the PSP's versatility. One could argue Sony only released the browser capability for free because people were already able to do it, and it was a good way to incentivize people to upgrade to the more crack resistant firmware. Maybe hacking can push technology forward.
