"Devoted" Gamers Comprise of Majority of the Market

imageIGDE, publishers of Game Pro and other magazines, claims "devoted" gamers make 52% of all gaming purchases, while "social" gamers accounted for 35% and casuals brought up the rear. Without reading their whitepaper, it's hard to grasp exactly what a devoted gamer is, but I'd be willing to guess it's a mix of hard core gamers and the most dedicated group of what we call casual gamers, seeing as they claim 41% of all gamers are devoted. Interesting to note how much money is spent by a relatively small portion of the gaming populace.
