Video Game Pricing Strategies: Why Game Prices Are The Way They Are

| 21 Sep 2005 15:36

imageYou might think I am all about insulting former puzzle game developers and posting links to silly pictures, but I actually do like to stretch the ol' brain for more than finding new ways to not-swear. Gamasutra has an interesting article up on video game pricing and publishing models. It's a bit academic (code word for "dry"), but is still an interesting read if you're interested in the industry on a business level.

Interesting quote:

In 1708 this Bible was sold exactly the same way this copy of Madden Football was sold 300 years later. The model for pricing games was created for a different industry (book publishing) more than 300 years ago and it has fallen behind the times.

Also note I didn't make the Bible comparison, so don't send me the whining emails.
