Asherons Call: This Month's PC Gamer and AC

| 2 Jun 2003 15:03

If you haven't seen this month's PCGamer you should take a look if nothing else, just for the cover. The entire cover is City of Heroes and it's a comic-book collector's dream. But, what makes this month really great is it's dedicated to MMO's. Not just new one's, but existing ones. And get this, they LIKE AC1.

What's New? What isn't new? Asheron's Call has monthly updates that include both game and content as well as game fixes and balance changes. The game today would be unrecognizable to a first-month subscriber. Recently, Turbine reworked nearly the entire bottom structure of the game - from weapon damage to the difficulty of monsters to the buyack of player skills and statistics to the introduction of new trade skills. Next month? It'll change again, and continue to do so until most of the player base drifts opver to the sequel.

Ok, I know, you're all going to argue with that last statement. Nonetheless it IS a glowing review for a 3.5 year old game. Oh, and one statement I found amusing...

Your biggest problem will be finding the game in the first place. Microsoft has discontinued selling it from its online store, and its difficult to locate at retail

Difficult, yes. Impossible, no. The store I BOUGHT this magazine at was putting three copies on the shelf as I paid for this. *grins*
