Internet Tough Guy Alert: Violent Video Games Lead To Brain Activity Characteristic Of Aggression

| 13 Oct 2005 15:14

imageA small study out of Michigan State University has MRI-backed evidence that playing violent games leads to brain activity characteristic of aggression. While I normally like to nitpick the way reporters write about research, this quote from one of the assistants is pretty clear: "There is a causal link between playing the first-person shooting game in our experiment and brain-activity pattern that are considered as characteristic for aggressive cognitions and affects."

Granted, anyone who's run into one of those Internet Tough Guys (YEA I'M A SNIPER IN THE ARMY AND I KNOW JU JITSU AND ALL I HAVE TO DO ALL DAY IS PLAY COUNTERSTRIKE!!!) already knows this, but the results of the research are pretty interesting.
