PlayStation 3 For Christmas '06 Or Not. You Know, Whatever.

Oh, god. ARS Technica has something calling the PS3 for Christmas '06. While it might be a smart move to not launch opposite MS and Nintendo, that also gives us a year to buy XBoxes and Revolutions and decide, you know, we only need two consoles. You might call it a brilliant move. But consider this. Systems are typically only worth buying after a year or so, once the catalogue gets out, the crappy inital launch games all fail and hit the bargain bins, and everyone figures out how to make games for the consoles. So the Playstation 3 is going to be launching not against Nintendo and Microsoft with no games, but against Nintendo and Microsoft with a year's worth of game releases and probably a price cut or two. So step into my time machine: you can either get your PS3 with ten games or your Revolution/360 with oodles of them. Looks pretty dumb to me.
