Actually, I Just Want a Fun Game To Play

Is it too much to ask? A popular trend is to blame video games like GTA by saying they contribute to a tech bias against women, and that's why women don't play, don't get involved, aren't in the industry, etc. Although this link appears to be sporadic, a selected quote from the article illustrates a typical line of thought in this critiquing realm. It refers to course, that famous whipping post, Grand Theft Auto - "If there were more girls involved in designing games this product may not have gone to the shelf with violence against women packaged in the scoring system of the game." No really, it probably would have still gone there, I'm sure. Yes, I agree. More female designers are needed in the field, but please stop blaming GTA (it can't help what it is) and shining it as a typical example of how all games are. Instead of wondering how to design for women (as if women gamers are an entirely different species), why don't people realize there are some women gamers (hi!) that just want what all gamers should want - an interesting, well done, original and intelligent game that doesn't care what side of the gender line we happen to sit on.
