I'm apparently the only person on the Internet not angry at the world for not getting a 360. But, hey, if you camp out at some ungodly hour for a 360 and the cops shove you around, that's a little uncool. Kudos has to go out to the guys at Microsoft and their marketing department. I'm guessing they've sold 25% more 360s than they would have it if they'd had all kinds of units available, simply from the "OMG XBOX 360 IS OUT OF STOCK" effect. They turned what would've been a gamer thing into a cultural phenomenon, engaging the "Gotta keep up with the Joneses!" drive in the middle-class. They have managed the American consumer herd like a wily sheepdog, and the wool-covered masses shivering outside Best Buy only manage a "Baa" in response. I hope "The time I got beaten by the cops for a video game console" becomes a treasured memory. Our parents got tear-gassed protesting Nixon. We get clobbered waiting for an appliance.
