To give a brief description of the setting:

The world of Alventyr is ancient to its inhabitants, yet the gods look upon it as a vibrant youth which is still unaware of its potential. The destruction of a world, not unlike Alventyr, was the Source's terrible reminder to the gods of their duty to be stewards of their creation. Alventyr now rests in an uneasy balance as kingdoms rise and fall, and the powers of gods and men strive to assert their own will upon the world.

The adventurer begins their journey in the fortress-city of Helrungaard on the continent of Issofast in the year 1233 CR (Common Reconning). Helrungaard was founded in the sanctuary peninsula of Eida Vale over 250 years ago. The forefathers of Helrungaard were forced to settle at the northern borders of the Vale as a result of the devastating Widow-maker Wars, which left the ancient kingdom of Esteria in ruins. The human intrusion on the lands once held by elves, halflings, gnomes, and dwarves - not to mention the population of monstrous beings - has trapped everyone behind a great wall (the Wall of Melwasúl). There are dangers on both sides of this living barrier; the lesser on the inside and the greater on the outside. Recent activities however have the High Command of Helrungaard, as well as the king of the elves of Algobar forest, wondering if the people of the Vale are now irrevocably snared in a trap of their own making.
