Club Blue Sky

WASTELAND, Tatooine (Sunrunner) - While in orbit around Dantooine, I had a chance to check my mail. There between the tax notices for my bunker and transit warnings from the local imperial garrison was an invite to a party on Tatooine at Club Blue Sky. I gathered some clothes and started calculating the jump to hyperspace that would put me in orbit around Tatooine.
As another great pilot once said, it "ain't like dusting crops" but, after a short time, the nav computer responded with a bright green "Course Complete".
Club Blue Sky is nestled in an ancient oasis in the middle of the dune sea.
Founded by Gravis, a two-time winner of the Galactic Homeshow, the club is comfortable and welcoming to the adventurous souls that travel that deep in to the Dune Sea. Blue Sky offers a well stocked bar, large open dance floor and a sound system unlike any I have ever seen before. Exploring the inside of the building is a delight and should not be missed by any club go'er. Many areas are more Bothan sized but the club as a whole is still comfortable for even the tallest of Wookees.
Pulling club owner Gravis away from the music and party, I had a chance to ask him a few questions.![]()
One of the first things I needed to know was how he ended up out here where so few survive. Gravis told me, "While exploring the vast Tatooine plains one day, I came across a series of ruins. A lot of ruins of this type are not able to be built on, but it's always worth a shot to try. To my pleasant surprise, I was able to place homes on and nearby them. Being an aspiring dancer, I had a dream of having my own cantina.
Now a theme was developing inside my head ... wouldn't it be cool to have a lone cantina out here on the dune sea? Call it Wasteland Cantina. No city to be found, just a lonely structure surrounded by ruins lost in time. Well to do that I did of course need a city to place one. So I put down a few homes to "reserve" the spot, covering the ruins for a time. Months passed as I tried to gather up some friends to help me found the temporary city that I had every intention of destroying once the Cantina was down. Eight months later, Wasteland was founded. I had not counted on it taking that long, but through the patience I needed to wait it out I fell in love with the city that did not yet exist. I planned its every block and garden."
Wasteland is a site to behold, and as I found out from Gravis, "Wasteland is not a city - it is a resort." Wasteland is home to 10-15 full-time residents but also hosts housing for 40-60 part-time vacationers from the far reaches of the galaxies.![]()
When I asked about city structure, Gravis grew a hearty smile and explained, "The city is set up right now with a central ruin complex and all the main civic structures around them. Surrounding the city to the South, West and North are currently three housing islands, which will expand to five with new citizens. Each island consists of a square surrounded by various sized homes, and each has a theme based on one of the Tatooine elements: Sand, Sun, Wind, Water and Stone. The shuttle is placed over a dune and out of sight of the city, so when you look out to the East you see nothing but open desert. The shuttle was placed out of view of the city so that casual travelers might still overlook the downtown area. Surrounding the shuttle is the shopping village, where any Wasteland citizen can place a shop and be convenient to shoppers while still not affecting the open desert view from the city. The shuttle and shopping village are on the edge of town so that people who are not citizens can also build nearby and have convenient access to the shuttle, and again be out of view of the main city. Please note: the shuttle is there merely for the convenience of the citizens. I would rather it not be there at all as the theme of the city is to be secluded and hard to find."
I found Gravis to be a decorator extraordinaire, with an ability to take many ordinary materials and craft them into amazing works of art. He is an Entertainer, but also a trader and smuggler at heart.
Gravis adds setting up cross-galaxy trades, hiring out his decorating skill and collecting rare items to an already full resume. Should you have the chance to sit down and share a drink at the bar with him, he is one of the people that makes this galaxy a great place to visit.
Club Blue Sky is not only a great club but the entire resort is more than worth the trip. When in the Sunrunner galaxy do you self a favor and check it out, you will be glad you did.
