Why would anyone start a persistent world?
I ran a NWN 1 persistent world called Battledale and it was a lot of fun. Building a server is a great chance to be creative, whether that means creating interesting NPCs and quests, designing exciting areas or putting together challenging monsters for the players to slaughter.
It is also a chance to work with some great people, including other DMs and players. If players are inspired by your work to come up with an original character idea or indulge in some quality roleplaying, it makes the whole thing worthwhile.
As a new player, what does Temalosh provide to help me get started?
New players will be offered a simple quest in which they learn a little about the setting, how the server works and the places suitable for a new character to go.
The quest will also bump them up to second level once it is completed. Experience gain on the server will be pretty slow, but that first level is often not much fun in an online Dungeons and Dragons game. You just die too easily. So we'll get it out of the way quickly.
What do you think is the selling feature of Temalosh over other persistent worlds?
The server has what I hope will be an interesting unique setting, and a fun roleplaying ethos.
For us, roleplaying is about using your imagination, creating fun characters and sharing ideas and stories with other players. It is not about a DM checking where you have put your skillpoints.
Other than this, the server will strive to be simple. It may not have a lot of the cool features of some other NWN2 worlds. Any scripts of special features we put in will work and not be too obtrusive.
Can I find out more about the background to this world?
There is a huge amount of background information on our website, www.nwn-roleplaying.com.
How long has Temalosh been in existence?
The server has been in the planning stages now for about a year. The website went up about two months ago.
What are some of the highlights of Temalosh?
The server features a highly-detailed setting designed for a NWN 2 world. Every area in it will be connected to the main storyline in some way, and there are plenty of secrets to be uncovered.
Players will be able to join forces with different organisations and rise through the ranks as they perform services for them.
We also plan to put in place a custom crafting system in which players will be able to pay NPCs to build weapons and armour to their design, with the right materials. However, the overall magic level will be pretty low - there won't be magic swords lying around all over the place.
Would you consider Temalosh more of a "hack-n-slash" world or an RP world?
Roleplaying will be strictly enforced in the sense of requiring players to stay in character on the server at all times.
However, the game mechanics will not be altered more than strictly necessary. We do not believe making the game harder for players, or attempting to replicate pen and paper game mechanics when they differ from the design of NWN2, necessarily helps roleplay.
