It's pretty easy to see a similarity between the Warhammer Fantasy world and the world of WarCraft--at least artistically. Orcs are big green brutes with square faces, reddish eyes, large tusks. Super-fancy armor characterized by often-Gothic designs, giant and ridiculous weapons, and an overall theme of order vs. chaos. While the IPs have significantly diverged since their inception, it's clear that they share similar origins.
In a MMO market completely dominated by the Blizzard Juggernaut, however, this does not bode well for Warhammer--leading many, both journalists and gamers alike, to write it off as nothing more than a "WoW Clone." OGX has a pretty interesting article containing a mini-interview with Mark Jacobs of EA Mythic about the relationship between the two fantasy universes.
"In terms of WoW, it is the most important MMORPG of this generation. Like all great developers, Blizzard has learned a lot from the mistakes of others, as well as added, either through creation of new stuff or through evolution of old stuff, a lot to the genre and, of course, also made some mistakes. Like Blizzard, or any great developer, Mythic looks at what went before us in order to learn from their mistakes and successes, including our own mistakes and successes.""
