Sony has officially confirmed the push-back in the release date for the Playstation 3 in Europe and other territories (Russia, Middle East, Africa, Oceania,) citing production problems with the Blu-Ray drive. This effectively makes the planned PS3 launch far from "global," as initially planned. However, designs to launch this November in Japan and the USA remain unchanged. Thanks to Joystiq for this information.

Also from Joystiq, a followup piece: Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities has revised his predictions for PS3 console sales, saying that the loss in sales this coming holiday season will be replaced by a growing market share for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. Both of these articles are worth reads, so check them out!
