Gods And Heroes: Stieg Hedlund gets interviewed in this week's Escapist

The Escapist interviewed Gods & Heroes Design Director Stieg Hedlund about the mythology and background he drew upon when creating the world of Ancient Rome. He also spoke about how character classes were influenced:

Building the character classes for the Roman world is no less challenging. "Essentially, we wanted to create character classes that people could understand on the level of an expectation of a certain type of gameplay and then make sure we pay off that expectation," he began. "This sounds simple, but I think it's important: I can't tell you how many games I've played and had to restart repeatedly because I had to play the game for a while to figure out that the character wasn't what I had every reason to think it was."

I like to hit things with swords, so I will probably play a Gladiator or Soldier. Maybe a Scout on the side to get a feel for ranged combat. I'm glad that I can be confident that those classes will mean hitting things up close.

The whole article is great with plenty of information on the sources that were used to make the game look and feel as though you were an Roman citizen during the height of the Empire. You can read the full article here.
