As I reported yesterday, national video game retailer Gamestop / EB Games started taking preorders for the Nintendo Wii this morning. As your dutiful news reporter, I felt it was my obligation - nay, my duty - to brave sub-freezing temperatures and the bitter Minnesota morning wind in order to cover this.
That, and I really want a Wii.
I woke up in the wii hours of the morning, got dressed in what I thought were warm clothes-though I would later discover that it wasn't NEARLY enough-and made my way down to the bus stop. One short ride later, I was at my local Gamestop. It was 7:30 AM, and there was one person already in line-who'd been waiting since 7. For a while, it was only the two of us. At quarter to 8, we were joined by two more-and then three. Now, if anyone ever tells you that Minnesota isn't cold in the fall and winter, don't believe them. I was freezing my ass off, and was quite thankful that there was a store nearby where I could buy some gloves and some more socks. Otherwise, I think I would have had to amputate my poor frostbitten hands by now. Note to self: when waiting in line for 3 hours in the early morning, gloves are a very good thing.
By 9:50, the line had grown to some 20 or so people. The store was only getting 17 preorders, though-so some of those people were turned away emptyhanded, unfortunately.
Thankfully, one of them was not me.
November 19th, baby!
