Neverwinter Nights 2: Tales of Moonsea PW Announcement

| 19 Oct 2006 03:02

The Moonsea, one of the Faerun's natural wonders, it's smooth surface unbroken by islands, creating an almost perfect mirror of light when Selune rises over the land. Natural resources abound around it's shores, as well as powerful routes of trade, and rich mineral deposits.

However, the peace of the Moonsea itself, is often broken by the acts of man, and other races. With riches and wonder, comes also the darkness of war and greed, and with the darkness, also comes those who would fight against it, be they heroes, or merely survivors.

Dotted about the shores of the Sea, stand great cities, the black spires of Zhentil Keep looming over the entire region from the west, the smoky forges of Melvaunt in the north, the brilliant Red Plumes of hills far on the south, the ogre lands of Thar, and many others.

Amidst this foreboding land, and it's many dark citadels, ruled by tyrants of evil or greed, lie a few scattered towns, where yet an independent spirit lives on. The most notable of these, is the once-great city of Phlan.

At one time, a city to rival any of it's neighbours, long years of war, and catastrophes devastated Phlan, leaving much of it in ruin. The people of Phlan are a staunch and tireless lot, stubborn to the core, and fight the endless battle to rebuild their once proud home. Guided by the Council of Ten, and aided by it's presence at the mouth of the Stojanow River, an important stop for traders of land and sea alike, Phlan manages to attract others to join in it's rebuilding as well. Adventurers, merchants, scholars, and clergy alike, all play their part in sustaining the city, and it's aiding it's defence.

Although showing surprising solidarity against outsider conquerors, for the most part, the city's existence often seems fragile, protected from the aggression of it's neighbours only by the desire of other neighbours to see it kept out of enemy hands. Within the city itself, various groups vie endlessly for power, leaving the city in a perpetually unstable political state. Outsiders also meddle about the city, agents of other cities, or with their own agendas.

The adventurer of Phlan also finds much to do. Often, as the ruins are reclaimed, pockets of monsters, or other situations arise. The wilderness north of the city also holds many dangers and trials for the aspiring hero, or villain. Southwards, the Moonsea itself holds many mysteries, tales of pirates, fantastical monsters, and mysteriously appearing and disappearing islands make regular circulation amidst the harbour taverns.

The book of history lies open, a blank page showing, and a quill to one side, for as many stories are told, it yet awaits more Tales of the Moonsea.

Tales of Moonsea is a a roleplaying server project for Neverwinter Nights 2. It utilizes the Forgotten Realms setting background, and is loosely based on the setting of Phlan, and the Moonsea at large. Much likes it's predecessor in Neverwinter Nights 1, the City of Arabel, and developed by many of the same team members, the server focues heavily on roleplay, and character, rather then hack and slash high magic action.
