Ace Gamez has posted a Q&A with Stieg Hedlund, Design Director on Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising, discussing some of the design decisions, inspiration, and squad combat.
"Well, since our game is set in Rome, there aren't any dwarves or elves. The classes are Gladiator, Mystic, Priest, Rogue, Scout and Soldier. Then within those classes there is a great deal of room for customization. First, each character must be aligned with one of 12 gods from the Roman pantheon. The god you align to has many effects; he becomes part of the story of your character, asking you to perform tasks on his behalf and then rewarding you with cool items, standing with him, which is what allows you to call upon his powers. God powers are awesome abilities that make a Gladiator of Fortuna play quite differently from a Gladiator of Jupiter. Then within each class there is a feat tree that allows you to customize your build. And finally there is a great deal of physical customization you can do, right down to slider-based tweaking of nose length or eye shape. Further customization will also be available in-game, so there are a lot of different looks that can be achieved."
