Dark Age Of Camelot: Foundatons Brick and Mortar...

| 17 Jun 2003 13:51

Well, as I have said, I would give some info on Foundations. However I only know so much about the new 'free' patch as much as the rest of you. Little else can be done at this moment in time unless I had some form of inside review. I don't think I will need that though for what I'm going over today.

As far as Foundations is concerned, I'm glad that they are taking their time with this. The effort to make the housing system a pleasurable experience for all players, yet at the same time won't eat their toon wallet! Also, the ability to sell their crafted wares while they are away and maintain some form of income with what support there is now for crafters. And the ability to allow people into your own home and do as they please, maintaining the Vault and so many other things to think about. Though, these are more of outlines than anything in my opinion since these things are important and must be reviewed.

The cost of each type of house is yet unknown. The four styles or upgrades that you have are simple, yet they maintain the quality and overall look and feel of the area. Also, the location it seems for the most part may be a key factor when buying the lot. A lot of people wanting a nice, warm sun entering through their windows with a lake, and lush meadow in their front yard and mountains cascading in their back yard. Sure, who wouldn't want that! However, don't forget that looks aren't everything and sometimes that lot you purchase maybe the lot that will suit you even though you don't have that beautiful view everyday. Not sure if the price of location is a key for Mythic at this point, but it would be wise to make sure you have the coin in case this is a deciding factor for buying a lot. As far as the vanity dept. for your home, splurge, but be careful. Too many animal trophies can make your house look like the stuffed zoo!

My only concern with the price of the homes is, will any and everyone who has decent coin be able to afford not only the lot, but the house they want and the weekly taxes? Will they accrue for the amount of time that is needed in order to make that coin in order to pay for the home and at the same time keep it?

Crafters, I think you will have a certain advantage now over those that don't or can't afford homes. Crafters, who don't have homes, buddy up real quick! Before the thought of Foundations, I remember many a time walking in the Main City listening on broadcast about people looking for this, that and the other. A lot of times, there is little response, or there just aren't enough crafters about. Business itself can be more lethal and opportunistic here at the same time. The ability to sell your wares through your own merchant even while you are away is a very even and competitive challenge to those with the time and money. This will also give players who are looking for crafted items a wider selection and better opportunity to support their fellows crafters. This is, I believe, a major way in helping the economy for the game as a whole when it comes to crafting. I hope to expect further abilities or ideas for traveling crafters or bulletins for trades to be put out sooner or later.

Will this really and I mean REALLY help crafters in the long run? Will the ability to sell their wares through a merchant help them overall with their trade? Is there some form of tax or deduction taken from the sales? What are the limitations to what you are selling and how much?

As far as for those that don't have the ability to support the income on their own, now is the time to make some friends and hope you can all support it as a whole. Consider it like the medieval frat house. Not only does this help give you the chance to make new friends but widen the spectrum for group housing and allowing others like you to share the experience of owning a piece of plot. Just make sure they pay rent on time...

Don't let them fool you about that last piece of coin they had spent on crafting or paying their con bill, I can smell the ale from here! ;)
