It's lovely weather in San Diego, especially compared to what I'm used to back home in Minneapolis. There's no ice on the roads, no snow everywhere, and instead of 10 below temperatures...it's a balmy 70 degrees.
Last night was the Summit mixer. It's a bit of a tradition at the Summits I've attended so far to spend the first night before the Summit itself drinking and chatting the night away. For the old salts at this, it's a chance to reconnect with folks we haven't seen since the last event, and for new attendees, it's a chance to put a face to all the "red names" we see on the forums. That certainly seems to be the case at this Summit, what with all the introductions and old inside jokes being exchanged.
But this Summit is more than that so far. This one is a bit...different.
For one thing, this is not a game separated Summit. Players and fansite admins from every game are in the same room this time. Everquest and EQ2 players are bumping elbows with Star Wars Galaxies players. Fansite admins which affiliations to no particular game are in the same room as dedicated SOE fansite admins. Most importantly, not every player was chosen for their "rosy outlook" on the game. It's a bit of a melting pot of activity at this particular Summit and if the mixer was any indication, it could be an a particularly exciting one.
Now, I'd love to tell you a bit more, but it seems that breakfast is about to begin, and after last night's activities (and to prepare for the long day ahead), I'd better get some food while the gettings good.
I'll continue to post more updates throughout the day as I can.
