Making an RTS? Making an MMORTS? Why not hire someone who worked for Blizzard's benchmark RTS Starcraft. Saga announced today that they've added just such a person in the form of former Brood Wars lead programmer Dallan Christensen.
SAGA team led by Starcraft: Brood War's Lead ProgrammerOrem, UT, January 10, 2007 - SAGA (www.playsaga.com) is a new Massively-Multiplayer Online Real-time Strategy (MMORTS) game from Wahoo Studios. The development team has been led for over a year by veteran programmer Dallan Christensen, best known for his role as lead programmer on Starcraft: Brood War.
"It's been a challenge, but the concept has huge potential," says Dallan, sporting a hunting cap, lit only by the glow of a half-dozen computer screens. "We're blazing a lot of trails, doing a lot of things that have never been done before in the RTS genre. But at this point we're pretty much there-we've succeeded in delivering the SAGA game design we set out to achieve."
The SAGA team have overcome any number of development obstacles: the networking, security, and persistency databasing of collectible, upgradable armies has been a colossal accomplishment, the first of its kind.
SAGA internal alpha testers are getting a taste of collectible persistent strategy gaming already. Player responses have been extremely positive. Their enthusiastic feedback has been invaluable in redesigning many game elements.
SAGA is actively recruiting alpha testers for their upcoming closed alpha test, to begin shortly. Check website for details.
In response to popular demand, SAGA has just launched an html version of their website, www.playsaga.com. SAGA is slated for Beta release in Spring 2007. Visit our website to learn more, or to sign up for alpha/beta testing.
