Athelan chimed in on the subject of Slavery in AOC. I believe he summed it up quite well.
The quoted response from me was made in a different thread. What I was pointing out was that Howard's writings tied different peoples of Hyboria to real world peoples. And that the world as it stands today is not acceptant of the idea of slaves. In addition, Funcom is definately not afraid of having nudity in Conan, but we have to respect the ratings boards. We are rated-M and we will push that as far as we can. But it would be very very bad for the game as a whole to get rated "adults-only" which comes after M for mature. Because it means a lot of major retailers would refuse to sell it.
No one debates the fact slavery was a part of Hyboria, no one debates the fact you *could* put in slavery, but it doesn't change the fact that we are not, and will not. It's not exactly a feature worth looking into, I am not going to get rave reviews, or write "WITH REAL SLAVERY!!!" on the box as something that would sell.
Feel free to strip down and "roleplay" with your "slaves" in your player cities all you want, but it still isn't something worth our time to support even if it is possible.
I mean if you want to refer to your follower from one of the prestige classes as your slave thats your choice. We have area's with NPC servants of NPC's and even NPC slave's of NPC's but PC to NPC slavery or PC to PC slavery no.
Tell us what you think about this decision in our fourms!
