In case you didnt understand the title, I knows its a little vague, We have the Newsletter! Binky was kind enough to go ahead and post it, despite problems he is still have with the distribution.
Since all beta testing has been moved to the Iteration shard, I thought it would interest many of our loyal GNH Newsletter readers to know how the development process works and what role the Iteration server plays in that process. The review procedures we have in place will result in a much faster process for iterating our content than is typical, as well as a much closer tie to our core testing group.
When developers work on the game world, it's done internally on a special shard. This allows the developers to make changes to the world and then go in and play through those changes until they're happy with the game play in that area. Once every 24 hours, the code and content on this developers' shard is auto-promoted to the Iteration server.
The next step is what's called an "iterative review" of the changes. This usually entails a group of us logging in and playing through the area of the game world that has been updated. Our focus in these iterative reviews is to make sure that the changes fit the vision for the game as a whole.
We have completed iterative reviews for Telchinos and Tyrrhenian Shores. We've recently started on Alban Hills, and those that have access to Iteration can see that these changes are still a work in progress. Once the changes are complete, we'll go back and review them all to ensure that they meet the requirements we've set for this round of revisions. When we feel the Alban Hills meets those standards, we'll start working through the feedback from external testers, which can often prompt a whole new round of revisions.
You can see the entire Newsletter on the Gods & Heroes Main Site!
