When tinkering was introduced, an urban legend started about tinkering chances never being above 95%. Well, a recently uncovered post from 2 months ago contained some information dispelling this urban legend. Here's what Srand had to say in the message:
"I have also heard a number of conflicting reports about what the maximum chance of success on a craft interaction is, so I started at the source. I went to the crafting system and found the skill system function it uses, and then went to the skill system and plugged the same formula into an Excel spreadsheet to get some example numbers. Not the most scientific method, I know, but it works.
As far as I can tell, it is perfectly possible to have a 100% chance of success for normal crafting (depending on your skill, of course). I don't see any artificial limits that cut this chance off at 99% or 95% or what have you. Of course, imbuing is somehwat different in that it divides that chance by three, but for dyeing and tinkering and normal crafting interactions, I believe the maximum chance of success is a full 100%. (On the other hand, you never truly have a 0% chance of success, because even if your chance is 0, rolling a 0 means you succeed.)
I wouldn't swear to that for combat or spellcasting, by the way -- I only looked at the craft system. "
So there you have it. You don't have to worry about a 5% failure rate always looming over head, even if the calculator says otherwise. =)
