Gods And Heroes: New Beta Journal!

| 15 Mar 2007 23:20

Thats right folks, on top of all the great reviews coming out, we are starting to see more and more beta journals!

Welcome to the 3rd installment of the Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising Core Tester Beta Journals.
These Journals are based on the adventures and experiences of the Core Testers. Sometimes the content will focus on the in-game experience and sometimes it will focus on the technical aspects of the game. It is up to the writer. We will try to post a series of journals from each writer and will introduce new journals as we progress through Beta.

The Identities have been kept hidden due to the NDA and to keep it so the writer doesn't get harassed. If you have specific question about a Journal Entry, post then in the forums and we will try to conduct a follow-up interview with the writer.

Thanks to the writers and I hope you enjoy the Core Tester Beta Journals!

--- Core Tester Beta Journal - Vol. 3 ---

I wasn't exactly sure where to start my journal this week, so I decided to make a comment about system specs. A friend of mine on CT1 wanted me to point out that his prior system was an AMD 2.8 processor, one gig of ram and an Nvidia 5900 Ultra. He was able to run the game in high detail, with world shadows (flora, trees etc) off but character shadows on, and AA off. The game ran smoothly for him. Hope that helps a bit.

I have been playing MMO's since 1997, and one thing that had never changed in all that time was my utter and total hatred for caster classes, Wizards/Mages/Priests, etc. I just hated them. Oh, I tried to make myself like them. I mean it is cool to cast spells. It's just not fun getting shredded like paper when you tick off a mob. In the long run I am a diehard melee person, either tank, because they can take a hit, or a fast damage dealer. I'll play anyone that doesn't wear cloth armor or need to meditate for ages, basically. One exception to this is I've played a caster that had a pet, so that the pet could help keep some of the heat off of me. But that was only one time in ten years.

Now I'll come to the point of all of this. I've been testing classes in Gods & Heroes, but I have been mainly sticking to what I know: Soldiers, Gladiators, Scouts. You get the point. Last week I decided to try a Mystic for the first time. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, what with my past decade of hatred for casters. But to my amazement, I actually loved the Mystic. PE recently revamped the Mystic feat tree, so some of the Mystic's abilities are still disabled. But after studying the tree for a while I decided I wanted to go down the necromancer side of the tree because I happen to love dots and stacking dots. The other side of the tree is more of your high powered direct damage line of spells, which is also fine. But for this I chose dots. (Keep in mind that anything I say may change at any time, since it's all still being tested.)

When I started my Mystic, I was with a group of four core testers. We all leveled up together to about level ten. After that I put her back up and went back to my Melee types. I mean, it's one thing to play a caster in a full group, but another thing to solo one, right?

Well, it so happens that one day I decided I'd just finish up a quest I had. I wanted to complete it because it was for a really good minion and it was a level 6 quest, nothing too hard for a level 10 mystic.
