Star Trek Online: New Look for Star Fleet

During the GDC, Perpetual Entertainment allowed various media outlets to tour their studio. STO is still deep in the development stage, but they were able to give a sneak peak of their vision through their concept art. Perpetual has already stated that they were going to take liberties and get a little creative because the story takes place 20 years after Nemesis and because they are not restricted by the limitations of television and human actors. One of their more bold choices is the new militant look of Star Fleet vessels, which has been met with both excitement and complaint. Many are not happy with the new look because a militant Star Fleet goes against the principles and values of the Federation. Some feel that an aggressive appearance just isn't in character for Star Fleet. In the end, the new threat that Perpetual has alluded to may be the explanation for the new look. During times of crisis and war, Star Fleet has always been able to toughen up, as illustrated in episodes such as 'Yesterday's Enterprise' or during longer arcs like the war with the Dominion. Either way, one thing is certain, the concept art for Federation Starships is very cool.
