Levels are the major milestones of character development, but while working to move to the next one, characters progress through four ranks in each level. On the 5th rank of your level, you get to actually level up your character. At each of these ranks, they gain an action point, which can be spent at the trainers to purchase enhancements. These action points can be spent on new enhancements for your character immediately or saved to spend at a later time, when higher level enhancements are available.
