According to a story at Guild Wars Guru, the story broken by the Inquirer earlier this month is actually true. So-called episodic content will be going the way of all things after the next "chapter" entitled "Eye of the North" which will then be followed by the full blown expansion, Guild Wars 2.
Eye of the North is scheduled for a Christmas 2007 release and will cost less than past expansions. After that, the Arena Net team will turn their talents to Guild Wars 2 scheduled for beta testing in 2008. The Eye of the North expansion will help fill the gap between content in Guild Wars and the Guild Wars 2 world.
More details about these two subjects can be found in the May issue of PC Gamer.
Frankly this is very amusing and one wonders how the Inquirer people got their hands on the information so long before the "official" release of the news. I'm sure they're feeling vindicated. The strangle hold that Arena Net maintains on the dissemination of news is astounding. Official news sites and other media outlets are forced to follow the dictates of the AN media office. For instance, rather than confirming that the Inquirer story was true, online news sites were reminded that "nothing is official until WE say it's official". What was left out was the part about how nothing is official until the BIG BOYS in the print media say it's official.
Either way it's an exciting time for Guild Wars fans. Here's to an ever-expanding Guild Wars world.
