USA Today has an article on their website today entitled "When multiplayer worlds collide". It's a brief overview of the MMORPG market, featuring Star Wars: Galaxies primarily (as it's in their Movies section) but also touching on other games including Asheron's Call and Lord of the Rings Online. It also has the following quote from AC Executive Producer Jessica Mulligan, regarding the current state of the MMORPG industry:
"The Sims Online was so overly hyped and did so poorly compared to what was expected, it has cast a pall over the industry. Now people are questioning whether this is even a viable niche in the computer industry," says Jessica Mulligan, executive producer of the Asheron's Call games.
For those who might never have heard of MMORPGs, this is certainly a fair introduction to the genre. For folks like us who are already involved, it's good to know how the "outside world" perceives us and our hobby (or line of work).
