Howard Marks and Steven-Elliot Altman were kind enough recently to answer a few questions about Acclaims 9Dragons for us.

Howard Marks is the CEO of Acclaim Games and Bestselling author Steven-Elliot Altman is the Lead Writer and Loremaster of 9Dragons, the first authentic martial arts massively multiplayer online game. Think of the world of Hero, House of the Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or even Jackie Chan's classic Drunken Master. In 9Dragons you can rise from a beggar on the streets to become a master of martial arts as you train with some of the greatest masters of ancient China.

MMOL: What was/is the biggest issue you (Steven from a writing aspect and Howard from every other aspect) have had in adapting an already existing Korean game to something for the Western Market?

Steven: I guess it would have to be the cafeteria approach I needed to take toward inclusion of the Eastern philosophy and lore that's behind all the Kung Fu. Luckily for me, concepts like Karma, Chi Breathing, Meditation and Mind Over Matter have already seeped into Western culture. Hopefully, I hit the right balance.

Howard: The biggest issue I found was to convince them that a great story written by a great writer who is an American would make this game a great success in the United States and Europe.
