Yet another weekly update from AA Associate Producer Andrew "Zzyn" Wagner posted today clarifying the upcoming updates process (large updates VS. smaller faster ones) in addition to some juicy snippets:
Hiya folks! I am now a self-quoter!
I quoted myself here so I could clarify my statements. I've received a number of PM's and questions from folks. To be clear: I wasn't indicating that we are going stop putting out updates to Auto Assault. What I was trying to say is that I support the smaller-faster-updates model, as opposed to big longer 'Update X' model.
When I said "I'm not aware of the contents or the existence of U5," that's all I meant. There may be a U5 somewhere down the road, but for now, I'm pushing for smaller, faster updates.
The reason you haven't heard a lot lately, is because we are deep in the testing phases of the next build. That build includes a *lot* of bug fixes, the previously mentioned/promised Tournament Schedule with rewards, as well as TWO race maps (that freakin ROCK). Not only that, there's something to the tune of 100ish new weapons as well.
A lot of testing and internal iteration goes into making all of these items as clean as possible before they are put on a public server. Rest assured, we are working like crazy to get these updates and more out to you as soon as possible.
You should see some screenshots and other information showing up on our fansites before long, so hang in there!

The new races are available via the arena interface and some tournies will be set up as races. They are both much cooler than the mutant starting area course, although with a little spice that one would be cool too.
ND has even added functionality for 1v1v1 and 1v1v1v1 for the races. I beleive they are limited to 4 racers are a time.
As far as Soulie's question, as it stands you race in whatever car you have equipped, but as you'll see when you run them, the fastest car won't always win. :-)
