Allow me to introduce you all to the first installment of our weekly "STO Transmission" feature.
With the imminent launch of Star Trek Online so far away, we feel the community could use a little meat to sink its teeth into - a little discussion to get the blood (and adrenaline) flowing and keep us engaged in the Star Trek universe.
So, every week we're going to open up the floor for what will be a series of discussions - prompted and carried out by our beloved fans. Over the course of a week, everybody will have a chance to offer their two pesos and beat the living snot out of any one with a differing viewpoint (ain't democracy grand). Questions or discussion topics will be submitted by the community each week and we'll pick the most promising (or amusing) from the submissions. Anything's fair game here, from discussions about game mechanics to "Where are the tribbles?" This is a chance to let the punches fly in a no holds barred discussion Trek-a-palooza (okay, I made that word up).
To get the ball rolling, the staff has put together our first week's topic:
In recent media blurbs and interviews, the folks at Perpetual have evangelized about group dynamics being a major focus of STO's design. They've mentioned that - true to the Star Trek name - ship crews in the STO universe will be comprised of members of different species and hold various professions, and most interestingly that individual players will be able to pool their talents and resources and work together as crew of a single starship. This kind of group behavior is virtually unheard-of in popular MMOs today, where every player is very distinctly the center of his or her own little world. How do you feel this crew system will affect the game? Do you think it will be a good move for Perpetual? And most importantly, do you think it'll be fun?
