Asherons Call: Jessica Responds to Today's Events

| 1 Jul 2003 20:35

Jessica Mulligan, Executive Producer of AC and AC2, responded on [A href="http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=52792232&start=52819093" target="_blank"]ACVault[/a] surrounding the controversy today:

[i]To the AC community:

I'll start with an apology to the community: the seemingly innocent tease about the mysterious disappearance of Jaleh al-Thani that srand gave to Ophelea should never have happened. If it happened at all, it should have been for general publication, not just the Warcry CoD staff, and it should have gone out to several fan sites at once, not just one. So please accept our apology as a team; this won't happen again.

I also want to assure you all that no details about the content were revealed, period; the only information given out was that something would be happening "later." There were no content hints, locations of dungeons, time of launch, et al, handed out by anyone on the Turbine team to anyone in the community. We're as concerned as you are about giving players an equal chance at content. Giving out those kinds of details is strictly forbidden here and is not viewed lightly.

Our new Community Relations person, who will be our liaison to the fan sites, will be starting next week and will charged with getting information out to everyone. This does not mean that you won't see Orion and srand posting at their usual haunts; I believe that kind of public developer-to-player communication is vital to an MMP. It means that the occasional and casual, on-the-fly information exchanges some of the team have had with some fan site operators and moderators will be ending.

Again, please accept our apologies.
