Microsoft has denied that their console has high defect rates, according to GameDaily. The article points out the overwhelming anecdotal evidence for the red rings of death, but Microsoft insists that the problem is that of a vocal minority.
I'm of two minds on this. My Xbox 360 has already gone back once after it developed a case of the red rings, but I'll give Microsoft credit, they turned it around and had it fixed in no time. So problems or not, they're at least doing right by their customers and getting them back gaming again quickly.
Nevertheless, in a new interview with the San Jose Mercury News, Todd Holmdahl, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Gaming and Xbox Products Group, evaded questions about the return rate for Xbox 360. When asked about the oft quoted 3 to 5 percent figure, he said, "We don't disclose the actual number." Instead, he said that the anecdotal evidence is from a "vocal minority," seemingly suggesting that everyone is blowing these problems out of proportion.
