Our last entry of this limited run series comes from a former Site Manager, Ellen_Ripley:
Coming up with a favourite quest is no easy task. I waited in line for the green mire curiass along with the rest of us old timers. I left so many bodies in so many locations I can't even begin to list them all.
I must admit, I've always been a fan of the Olthoi Queen Quest. Guess it has something to do with the name sake :)
Associated with this quest & its dynamic is a quest that incorporates quite a few elements that I view as being essential to a quest worthy of participation.I'm talking about the Palenqual Weapons Quest, & specifically the version prior to the upgrades, however the updated version is worthy as well.
This quest starts with the eternal search for Hea Temenua, an elusive, randomly spawning creature that appears on Marae Lassal. He's more than just the 'Elari bow guy', he also drops a totem that you need to take to the wise npc's on Timaru. Now Temenua is not easy to find & I like that part, it requires running around the plateau & hoping you can best him & his level 85ish comrades when you do find him.
Once you have the token, you're only just starting. From there you need to decide which of the three weapons you want, melee staff, magic staff & crossbow. I personally love them all & refer to them as my badminton rackets. They are impressive weapons visually & do some nice damage in their own right. What I love the most is the customization afforded to these weapons & the work required to apply those customizations.
Now it's time to delve into the bellies of the hives, the randomly spawning portals on Marae Lassal you probably saw while running around looking for Temenua. There's New, Shallow, Simple, Small & Tiny & I'm telling you, you can't find them when you need them, but when you don't, you fall into them!
Each one holds a piece of rubble in the belly of a special blue olthoi noble. They're all different level requirements & you may need to pull out your big girls & boys to get some of the pieces, but thankfully they can be given.
Once you've located Temenua, located the Hives, located the lone blue noble & relieved him of his rubble, it's time to make some decisions. Head back to Timaru & talk to the wise npcs in the main building again. There are many attributes that can be applied to these weapons & you need to make your decisions carefully, but I guarantee you, the final product will be one you are proud of because you took the time to find the items yourself.
Now get yourself a badminton racket! I highly recommend the Storms attribute on the magic casting stave, but most importantly, have fun doing it!
I do miss the old dynamic that involved dropping bells at the mehnir rings in order to drop the rubble pieces, and waiting for a certain phase of the olthoi queen quest to be completed in order to get your specific item. However it made sense to alter the dynamic to accomodate the drop in the frequency of the running of the Olthoi Queen quest.
That being said, it's still a great quest.
"The experience itself is worth more than the experience points."
