Overview
Mission
It is the mission of the Galactic Senator to represent to the best of his or her ability the segment of community for which he or she has been appointed. It is the responsibility of the Senator to take into account the interests and sentiments of those represented in an unbiased and objective capacity, serving as advocate, leader, and unified voice for the players.
Appointment
Candidates for the Galactic Senate may be nominated by any player in good standing, and self-nominations are also considered. Clarity and influence are among the top desired traits for a Senator to possess. An election commission comprising of the Star Wars Galaxies Community Team will appoint the title of Senator to players from the pool of nominations. Once appointed, a Senator will serve a 6 month term at which point the position will be open to new candidates.
Structure
There are 32 total Senators. The following is a breakdown of positions within the Senate:
Profession Senators Beast Master Senator | Legacy Senators Current Senators who have served with distinction will continue to do so for the first elective term. There are currently 11 Legacy Senators. | Aspect Senators Imperial Senator |
Fifteen will be named for the Professions, one for each, including the four sets of expertise which Trader may be broken down into. Six Aspect Senators will be named in addition to represent the various aspects of the game, and eleven Legacy Senators will continue their role as representatives.
Privileges
Senators will have access to The Galactic Senate forum, where debate, discussion and votes that help mould the future direction of Star Wars Galaxies will take place. Senators are granted limited moderator abilities (Sticky, Announcement) in their respective forums and are flagged with the prestigious title of Senator. Once monthly, Senators will convene in-game on Test Center for the Convocation of the Galactic Senate to discuss priority items on the agenda.
Duties
Senators are required to represent the interests of their public accurately. For professions, this means a special attention to the details and nuances of balance, systems and functionality of their chosen profession in-game. As a community leader, the Senator is expected to be the definitive source for all things which he or she represents. A Senator representing an aspect should champion the interests and concerns of that particular aspect, and and will be expected to speak with the voice of all that aspect's constituents.
A Senator is expected to express the concerns and interests of his or her constituents on legislation that has been proposed by the Community Team. Bills requesting the consensus of the Senate to define community desires will come to the floor of the Senate and are expected to be debated and voted on in a timely manner. Senators will be encouraged to write or compile articles and guides to assist the players they represent.
Example - A Senator representing the Smuggler profession will be encouraged to write or compile from sources a guide to help newcomers to the Smuggler profession, and offer tips and hints from the community as a whole.
