Playstation 3 Sells 1,000,000 Units In Japan, Still Lags
The Playstation 3 has sold its 1,000,000th unit in Japan, where it still runs a distant second in the console wars. The Xbox 360 remains in third, no where near the milestone, but the Nintendo Wii is on the verge of 3,000,000 units.
Sales of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 game console surpassed one million units in Japan in about eight months after its launch, more than four times as long as it took Nintendo's hot-selling Wii to reach the same mark.
According to game magazine publisher Enterbrain, Sony has sold 1.01 million units of the PS3 as of July 15 while Wii sales totaled 2.9 million units as of July 8 and sales of Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 have came to 420,705 units.
