Pirates Of The Burning Sea: New Review for POTBS

| 18 Sep 2007 14:27

If you have been wondering what Pirates of The Burning Sea is like, and if you should be excited about this game, Coldfront.net has posted their review of the game.

With My Own Two Hands...

PotBS has a great number of ships in game - certainly more than 50 at last count. The reason the number keeps increasing is another area where Pirates of the Burning Sea is practically unique amongst MMOs: user created content. The user content program originally started - years before Flying Lab even created the mechanism to put them in game - with player submitted flags and sails. Flying Lab originally said a definite "nope" to the idea of player modelled ships, but now they even allow fans to create entire ships in 3D modelling programs and have them put into the game - after an extensive review process, of course. Some of the largest ships in game - like the 'Trinity' ship of the line and 'Oliphant' Indiaman - have been created by fans.
"We did not expect fans to be able to create ships," Isildur explained, "Now, half the ships in the game are fan-created, and we're getting more ships all the time. It's been a tremendous, astonishing success. I've talked a little about players creating content for each other before, and I think the ship modeling program makes it crystal-clear that fans can, and will, rise to any content-creation challenge you set them. For future games not to leverage that enthusiasm and talent would be insane."
