Frelorn, of Turbine's Community Management Team for Asheron's Call, shared with us some background regarding the rescheduling of the October Event:
A quick update on why we needed to delay the October patch.
For some time now we were noticing a spike in server performance issues on the Darktide server. After some investigation we found that there was a select group of players attempting to crash the world in order to dupe items. These players have been caught and all accounts related to this activity have been or will soon be, permanently banned from all Turbine products.
In order to prevent this from happening again, we have made a fundamental change to the game. After the October event goes live, players will no longer be able to place any items on a player or creature corpse. We had made a previous change to this system last year, and we hoped we would not need to make another change, but unfortunately some players felt the need to continue to exploit this system. Our course of action at this stage was to remove the behavior all together to prevent future abuse.
This is a good example of how trying to gain an extra advantage through exploiting not only hurts the people involved when they get caught, but it also hurts everyone else. Things like this are among the reasons we will continue to enforce the Code of Conduct in the same way across all worlds. A number of players, many from Darktide, came to us wanting a change in rules for that server, and or the ability to self-police themselves. This is a prime example of why we cannot do this. The team had to take time out of the schedule to resolve this issue quickly, and potentially hurt the development cycle we had in place.
In connection to this, we will also be going through all free trial accounts for any signs of abuse. Any player caught abusing the free trial, may be subject to permanent removal from the game and all Turbine products going forward. We will not tolerate anyone who abuses the system. If a player has a few trial accounts, chances are we will not be going after them, however if we find a player with say an abnormal amount of trial accounts, that person will be subject to the above mentioned disciplinary action.
In closing, please remember that every action you take may have an affect on other players and even other worlds. We want to deliver the best experience we can to our players, and will continue to do so.
