Four of GameSpy's editors enlist in the AFS to check out Richard Garriott's just released Tabula Rasa, giving their firsthand impressions and opinions:
Allen 'Delsyn' Rausch (Ilyana/Gordon): I don't think any discussion of Tabula Rasa would be complete without a discussion of the combat system. The bottom line, at least to my experience, is that Tabula Rasa's new combat system is easily the game's strongest feature. It's actually very reminiscent of Auto Assault in many ways, but unlike that game, this one's fun and much more cohesive. I love running around a dynamic battlefield knowing that I could get jumped at any moment by a squad of Bane Thrax troopers and some of the big base assaults are a lot of fun. Despite that, it still has traditional MMO mechanics underneath it -- damage types, weapon modifiers, that sort of thing -- which means that there's as much strategy involved in combat as in any traditional MMO...
