Shacknews has a story on changes to Star Trek Online. According to them, Star Trek Online is being retooled as a casual friendly game under an alternative business model. The report indicates that the company has been acquired by a new player in the MMO market. The assumption is that they will release the game under a free-to-play, micro-transaction business model.
All of this comes on the heels of an SEC filing from Gravity, which claims a $9 million loss as a result of the sale of Perpetual Entertainment. That move was most likely a legal maneuver to wipe clean the original company's debts.
As a sign of life, Perpetual still appears to be hiring. They posted a notice for an Assistant Producer/Tester today on craigslist. What's more, they underline their new direction when they ask for a candidate who speaks that language "to interface with Korean game development partners".
