Internode Games Network published an in depth interview with NetDevil's Jumpgate Evolution team, unveiling new info on the project:
Dragging myself back down to earth though - we discussed the all-important details of combat.
"Combat is reasonably straight forward - it's aim and fire - in contrast to a game like WoW, which is much more strategyish, the combat is still skill-based. And really, our main competitor, from the perception of genre, is EVE - and this is where we're different. Where EVE is clicking your spaceship through space, and it's sort of an intergalactic empire-building game, we're much more of an action game, so it's faster paced in that sense. We're also trying to be a lot less hardcore. EVE has a lot of hardcore elements to it."
This concept was neatly summed up later, saying that the comparison between Jumpgate Evolution and EVE Online should be the same as between WoW and EverQuest - same game concept, totally differing levels of "hardcore".
Scott Brown pipes up at this stage, letting Hermann concentrate a bit more on flying his little spaceship around the galaxy.
"For instance, one of our rules is 'No tutorials'. We wanted you to get in and start playing right away. We wanted it to be very very easy. At the same time though, we wanted it to be - like everybody says - easy to learn, difficult to master. By the end, you're flying these big ships that are difficult to control, but you've built up your skills over time."
